Summer Cycling Program 2010

Call your friends, get out your bikes and let's ride!

The MBSEF Summer Cycling Program is designed for any Central Oregon teen, our winter athletes (alpine, cross country, snowboard) and their friends who have the desire to improve their cycling skills, improve their strength and fitness, and have a great time. We encourage all of the riders to enter some races and will focus on preparing them to enjoy the competition. Again this year we will offer both mountain bike riding and road bike riding.

Enrollment Form      Liability Release      Medical Form

We will have a parent informational meeting Tuesday, April 20, 2010, 7:30pm, at the MBSEF office.

If you participated in a 2009-2010 winter season program, we just need the enrollment form.  If you did not, we also need the liability release and medical form with your enrollment.

Mountain:  The mountain program is for ages 8-18 and emphasis will be on technique, fitness proper equipment use and care, and trail etiquette.  New for this year, the program has a two and three day a week (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) option with sessions running for three weeks at a time.  Each session will culminate with an all-day Adventure Camp.  This camp is included with each session's tuition, but children can also participate for $50 without previous enrollment in the session.  The first Thursday of every session the kids are invited to bring a friend along for the day.  Opportunities for racing will be available and all children are encouraged to race if they are interested.  There are a limited quantity of loaner mountain bikes available, please contact the MBSEF office for further details.

Road:  The road program will be for ages 12 -18 and emphasis will be on proper cycling technique, group riding etiquette, fitness and proper equipment use and care.  New for this year, the program has a three and four day a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) option with sessions running for three weeks at a time.  Each session will culminate with an all-day Adventure Camp. There are a limited quantity of loaner road bikes available, please contact the MBSEF office for further details. Depending upon the interests of the athletes, coaching will be provided at select events throughout Central Oregon at an additional cost to cover transportation and coaching fees.  Please secure a $5 OBRA junior license if intersted in racing at  www.obra.org.

Cycling is a lifetime sport, and the exciting part of the MBSEF Summer Cycling Program is introducing young mountain and road cyclists to a team atmosphere where they can improve their cycling skills and fitness levels. The Summer Cycling Program also exposes young riders to a community where coaches, parents and community members are excited about developing, promoting and living a cycling lifestyle. Coaching positions are available for 2009. If you wish to be a road or mountain bike coach for the summer, please send your resume to mbsef@mbsef.org.

Junior Coach Internship - Riders age 14-18 will have an opportunity to act as Junior coaches for the mountain bike program.  As a junior coach they will assist our coaches in working with riders age 8-11.  The goal of this program is to expose our older riders to teaching bike handling skills, trail etiquette, etc. in a supported and familiar environment.  To truly master a skill is to be able to teach that skill to another.  Junior coaches will also serve as role models and "big brothers and big sisters" to younger riders at practices, adventure days and races.  Interested athletes should contact Taylor Leach for more information.

Junior coaches will have the opportunity to participate in the MBSEF cycling programs at a reduced cost..  They will participate as regular athletes two days a week and will act as junior coaches for remaining practice days.  Cost is 1/2 program fee.  (No multiple session discount.)  Junior coaches will also receive a free MBSEF cycling jersey.
